SUMMARY
ICBD message written by Margaret Mahy opens the present issue of RUBINAITIS, which is the first colour issue of the magazine. Traditionally two surveys of books for children published in 2006 are given in the next section. Gražina Skabeikytė-Kazlauskienė states 50 books of poetry were published during the year. But… are all those rhymes really poetry? – questions the scholar. Only books by Martynas Vainilaitis (1933–2006), by Ramutė Skučaitė and some other poems could be treated as true poetry. Absolutely unexpected and very interesting debut of the year was book of short poems by the famous politician Vytautas Landsbergis. Džiuljeta Maskuliūnienė also carefully looks for good prose book among new publications. She discusses some literary fairy tales for small readers, some fantasies: one imitates the famous Harry Potter, one was written by 14 year old author and one is original combination of historical events and mythological characters. Some novels are based on authors memoirs, and some problem novels reflect modern and really problematic world of children and teenagers. „Kintas“ by Vytautė Žilinskaitė and „Three against mafia“ by Viktorija Vaitkevičiūtė are among the most successful prose works.
Traditional caption Books of My Childhood contains interview with the Lithuanian author Jonas Liniauskas, who writes both for adults and for children. Almost 650 titles of new books are listed in Bibliography section. Two reviews also can be found in the issue.
