SUMMARY

The ICBD message opens the present issue of RUBIAITIS, and it is followed by three surveys of new Lithuanian books for children. Loreta Jakonytė explains how complicated it was to divide prose books published in 2007 into two groups: almost all of them are literary fairy tales and/or fantasies, almost all of them are written for younger readers, not for teenagers. That‘s why she analyses works written by male authors and Neringa Mikalauskienė discusses prose works by female authors. Among the most interesting books by Gendrutis Morkūnas, Kęstutis Kasparavičius, Gintaras Beresnevičius, Vytautas V. Landsbergis, Rimantas Černiauskas, Urtė Uliūnė, Emilija Liegutė, Laima Vincė are mentioned and discussed. Gražina Skabeikytė-Kazlauskienė examines poetry for children and finds one book really innovative and interesting enough, and it is „Amalgama“ by Sigitas Poškus.

Famous and popular  artist Kęstutis Kasparavičius, interviewed by Kęstutis Urba, tells about his childhood, about illustrations and texts he creates now. Dr. Liucija Černiuvienė analyses the first complete translation by Charle Perrault‘s works into Lithuanian made by Ramutė Skučaitė and states the translation is just brilliant. Roma Kišūnaitė compiled bibliographical list of books for children, published in 2007, and prepared information about the last events, concerned with children‘s literature.
