“Letter to the children of the world” by Siobhán Parkinson opens the issue of “Rubinaitis”. 300th anniversary of father of the Lithuanian literature Kristijonas Donelaitis is celebrated this year, Džiuljeta Maskuliūnienė in her article questioned what role play children in his great poem “The Seasons”. Three articles in the section SURVEYS are dedicated to discuss new Lithuanian books for young readers, published in 2013. The largest amount of books belongs to the genres of literary fairy tale and fantasy. There are quite many debuts in the field, notices Inga Mitunevičiūtė, some young mothers started to write for children, female authors in general dominated during last year. There were fewer so called realistic books and Loreta Jakonytė softly criticises almost all of them, except documentary book about two famous Lithuanian aviators Darius and Girėnas by Gražina Sviderskytė. But the worst situation is with poetry for children of late years, states Gražina Skabeikytė-Kazlauskienė.

Two reviews follow the surveys. Asta Gustaitienė presents monograph about modern Lithuanian children’s folklore and Neringa Mikalauskienė discusses “Pelican” (“Ihmisen Vaatteissa”) by the Finish author Leena Krohn. Philosopher and author Liutauras Degėsys was interviewed by Gintarė Adomaitytė in the caption READINGS OF MY CHILDHOOD. Many pages of the magazine are filled with BIBLIOGRAPHY, prepared by Roma Kišūnaitė, almost 500 titles were published for children in 2013.
