SUMMARY
The prompt for the introduction of this issue (“Book as toothache”) was the letter from schoolchildren who told about a lack of books in school library and they have to register for book as for a dentist.
Vilnius university student Eglė Obcarskaitė was fascinated by Lois Lowry’s novel “The Giver” and wrote the literary analysis of the book for Article section.
Works by OTFRIED PREUSLER are very popular in Lithuania, so even three publications are dedicated for the 80th anniversary of this German author. Roma Kišūnaitė introduces with the biography of Preusler. The magazine “Dietskaja literature” gave permission to reprint conversation between Preusler and the Russian author Vladimir Zeleznikov, which presents two different attitudes towards the tasks of children’s writer. Doctor Gražina Skabeikytė-Kazlauskienė deeply discusses the folkloristic background of “Krabat” by Preusler.
The 90th anniversary of the Lithuanian author in exile SONĖ TOMARIENĖ inspired Neringa Mikalauskienė to write about the literary fairy tales of her.
The caption Books of my Childhood is prepared by Gintarė Adomaitytė who interviewed the famous Puppet theater director and scenographer Rimantas Driežis.
Loreta Jakonytė, Džiuljeta Maskuliūnienė and Asta Plechavičiūtė review three new books. Letters from children as well as from librarians are published in the Letters section. The jubilees of children’s authors and illustrators to be celebrated in 2004 are announced in Bibliography section.
