SUMMARY

Traditionaly, the message of the ICBD writen by Manorama Jafa opens the first this year issue of the magazine. Also traditionally, two surveys of the new Lithuanian books for children published in 2004 are among the most important publications. Neringa Mikalauskienė writes about poetry and states we have less and less good poetry books for children, but some of them still are outstanding. “Man‘s Star” by poet Aidas Marčėnas and illustrator Šarūnas Leonavičius is the most beautiful book for children of the year. While Loreta Jakonytė, who writes about prose works, is glad to say that more and more famous authors are back to the field of children‘s literature. She discusses and evaluates more then 20 new books. These two articles as well as Bibliography prepared by Roma Kišūnaitė presents the whole prospect of new books for the Lithuanian children and young adults.

Two publications are dedicated to the 200th anniversary of H C Andersen. Some authors, teachers, illustrators answer to the questions about their perception of Andersen works and about the most memorable fairy tales of the author. Another publication (about Things and Natural Phenomena in H C Andersen‘s fairy tales) by Mare Müürsepp is translated from the Estonian almanac NUKITS‘2004. And two fairy tales by Andersen translated into Lithuanian for the first time one may find under the caption Let‘s Read Together Mother, Father!

The famous Lithuanian author who also wrote many books for children Mykolas Sluckis is interviewed by Gintarė Adomaitytė (the caption Books of my Childhooh). And some letters received from teachers and young readers are published in Letters section.
