SUMMARY
Vytautė Žilinskaitė received prize for the best book of the year and Children‘s Literature award established by Ministry of Education on the 2 April. Her award acceptance speech opens the present issue of RUBINAITIS. Vilija Dailidienė discusses some best translations for young readers published in 2006, and the Latvian author and publisher Inese Zandere in her essay considers Children‘s literature and reading situation in Latvia. Three publications are dedicated to the 180th anniversary of Johanna Spyri. Dr. Verena Ruttchmann from Switzerland presents the author‘s life and her classical work Heidi. Dr. Loreta Jakonytė discusses four different editions of the work in Lithuania, and the secondary school teacher Violeta Juodelienė presents her investigation how modern schoolchildren read and accept Heidi. Children‘s author Nijolė Kepenienė celebrated her first jubilee, on this occasion Rimantas Černiauskas asked Nijolė to remember her childhood and early readings. The new caption Discussions will try to involve secondary school teachers and ask them: So, do they read or don‘t read? The first respondent is Rita Karpavičienė from Panevėžys, and she states: Of course, they read! The permanent bibliographer of RUBINAITIS Roma Kišūnaitė presents some more new books for children, published in 2006 and the list of publications on Children‘s literature.
