SUMMARY

Bad books for children develop wrong literary taste of young readers. – This is the main statement of the Introductory, written by Kestutis Urba.

Roma Kisunaite calculated and analyzed the production of books for children and young adults, published in Lithuania during 1991 – 2000. The bibliographer discusses some trends in the Lithuanian books market and looks over the most prominent series of books for young readers in her article.

The caption “Books of my Childhood” contains the answers by popular children’s poet Alma Karosaite to Elona Varnauskiene’s questions. Alma Karosaite also presented some new poems for the section of the magazine “Let’s Read Together, Mama”. “The Magic Fishbone” by Ch. Dickens is published alongside the poems in the same caption. The latter publication is dedicated to the birth anniversary of the author.

Three books are reviewed in the section “At a Closer Look”. Those are the collection of short stories for young readers by the Latvian authors, “Brad’s Universe” by Mary Woodbery and the second book about Viplala by Annie M. G. Schmidt.

Vita Mozuraite tells about Walt Disney, whose 100th anniversary was celebrated this year, and Donata Andriuskeviciene introduces the Carnegy Medal to the Lithuanian readers. The list of books recommended for the 3rd and 4th grade is the last publication of the project by Kestutis Urba.
