Vilė Vėl, the author of the best book for children, written in 2003, considers the importance of language for the spiritual and intellectual development of child in the Introductory of the present issue of RUBINAITIS. Jostein Gaarder kindly permitted to reprint his speech, held in Basel during the 28th IBBY Congress. “Books for a World without Readers?” is the original title of his article.
