SUMMARY
2008 was proclaimed as the year of Reading in Lithuania. Kęstutis Urba shortly summarises what was done for young readers during the year. Russian editor and literary expert Anna Godiner contemplates books written for children in the 19th and begining of the 20th century. Those books (by Spyri, Burnett, Porter, Montgomery etc) became popular again in Russia as well as in Lithuania. „Why do we need those old books about children?“ is subtitle of her article. Finnish sholar Sisko Ylimartimo, the expert of L.M. Montgomery works and life, describes prototypes of the famous Anne of Green Gables. Neringa Mikalauskienė analyses trilogy about the Mite Dunno of the Russian writer Nikolaj Nosov, the article is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the author. The Lithuanian poet Mykolas Karčiauskas is interviewed by Alma Valantinienė and Kęstutis Urba, he remembers his childhood in the postwar countryside, his family and first books he read.
