SUMMARY
The introductory text by Džiuljeta Maskuliūnienė, Editor-in-Chief, tells about the miniature unveiled on Literatų Street in Vilnius on the 2nd of April this year, intended to commemorate the journal Rubinaitis. This is the fi rst miniature on this street with a QR code embedded in it. The author of the miniature is ceramist Agnė Šemberaitė. This issue also features a new rubric “Postcards to the Reader”, started by debuting artist Laima Matuzonytė. The following is an address to readers from Indrė Pliuškytė-Zalieckienė, this year’s Pranas Mašiotas Prize laureate. In the rubric “Photos Tell”, Roma Kišūnaitė presents the history of the crowns of Lithuanian children’s literature. They have been used many times to crown children’s literature creators who have won Lithuanian children’s literature prize (now called Pranas Mašiotas Prize), which has the longest tradition. The traditional rubric “The Reviews” highlights the works of Lithuanian children’s literature in 2024: Džiuljeta Maskuliūnienė reviews literary fairy tales, Vaiva Schoroškienė reviews educational books, and Akvilina Cicėnaitė reviews translated books. In the rubric “The Anniversaries”, Laimutė Adomavičienė analyses the extensive works for children of Petronėlė Orintaitė (on the occasion of her 120th birth anniversary). Gitana Vanagaitė analyses the memoirs and letters from exile of Marija Mašiotaitė-Urbšienė, daughter of Pranas Mašiotas, (on the occasion of her 130th birth anniversary). The rubric “Retro” presents an article by teacher J. Baltikauskas “Mokinių skaitymas namie” (Students’ Reading at Home), published in the journal Tautos mokykla in 1936, which is surprisingly not outdated even today. The rubric “The Articles” includes an article by Gražina Skabeikytė- Kazlauskienė “The Struggle of Values in Justinas Žilinskas’ Book ‘Kaukas Gugis ir kerų karas’ (Sprite Gugis and the War of Spells)’”. In the rubric “The Readings of My Childhood”, director Raimondas Klezys, who works creatively with youth issues, is interviewed by Modesta Jurgaitytė. The reviews rubric “With a Close Glance” includes Evelina Gudukaitė’s review of Kotryna Zylė and Inga Dagilė’s book “Geriausia diena” (The Best Day), and Vilija Dailidienė’s review of Laini Taylor’s novel “Svajoklis Streindžas” (Strange the Dreamer) and its sequel “Košmarų mūza” (Muse of Nightmares). The rubric “Let’s Read, Mom and Dad!” publishes a fairy tale about the witch Frida by Latvian writer Arno Jundze. The bibliographic list “On Children’s Literature and Reading in 2024”, compiled by Roma Kišūnaitė, is presented in the form of a QR code. At the back of the journal is the traditional rubric “Chronicle, Information, Announcements”. The back cover features a short story about the sculpture of James Matthew Barrie’s character Peter Pan in Brussels, created by British sculptor Sir George Frampton. The sculpture is dedicated to commemorate the friendship between England and Belgium and to honour the Belgian children of the First World War.
