SUMMARY
This year on December 19 is the 160th anniversary of the birth of the writer and pedagogue Pranas Mašiotas, known as the father of Lithuanian children’s literature. T hree articles are devoted to the anniversary in this issue: the introductory article “Our Pranas Mašiotas” by Džiuljeta Maskuliūnienė, the Editor-in-Chief of the magazine, the rubric “Retro”, where the article written by Reda Tamulienė “Pranas Mašiotas’ Anniversaries” is published, and the cover IV, which tells about Pranas Mašiotas fairy tale park located in Kačerginė, Kaunas district. In the rubric “The Anniversaries”, Gražina Skabeikytė-Kazlauskienė discusses Žemaičių pasakos (The Samogitian Tales) by Simonas Daukantas in the context of his legacy to the youth (dedicated to the 230th anniversary of the writer’s birth), Selemonas Paltanavičius’ text about Felix Salten’s character Bamby, a fawn, who has reached its 100th birthday, is also published in this rubric, and two articles written by Eglė Baliutavičiūtė and Irena Baliulė devoted to discuss the novella Viktutė (1903) by Šatrijos Ragana. The latter article also tells about Domininkas Bukontas, the prototype of the doctor of the character in the novella Viktutė. In the rubric “Photos Tell”, there is an article written by Džiuljeta Maskuliūnienė and Roma Kišūnaitė, that is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the children’s literature researcher and professor Vincas Auryla and the 90th anniversary of the poet Martynas Vainilaitis. New Year’s cards addressed to Vincas Auryla written by children’s poet Martynas Vainilaitis and New Year photo of Vincas Auryla and his son Sigitas are published in this rubric as well. In the traditional rubric “The Readings of My Childhood”, Džiuljeta Maskuliūnienė interviews the poet and publisher Nijolė Daujotytė-Kuolienė. Three articles are published in the “Scientifi c Research” section, which publishes peer-reviewed scientifi c works on children’s literature: Vita Džekčioriūtė’s article “Transformations of Images of Traditional Lithuanian Mythical Creatures in Contemporary Lithuanian Children’s Literature: The Case of Baubas and Maumas”, Sandra Bernotaitė’s article “Exile Women’s Writing and Children’s Literature: A Parallel” as well as Ieva Vaitkevičiūtė’s article “Reading with a Baby: The Particularity of the Book Market for Children Aged 0 to 3 Years in France”. The list of “Children’s Literature Dates of the Year 2024” compiled by Roma Kišūnaitė is published as well. The rubric “Chronicle. Information. Advertisements” (compiled by Roma Kišūnaitė) is published at the end of the magazine. Here, readers are notifi ed about the death of children’s authors Birutė Vėlyvytė (24 January 1945–27 October 2023) and Dalia Teišerskytė (27 November 1944 –27 November 2023).
