SUMMARY
The artist and author Leonardas Gutauskas is the winner of the best book for children of the year 2002. His prize acceptance speech opens the present issue of RUBINAITIS.
Ingrida Korsakaitė analyses the illustrations by Kęstutis Kasparavičius. A lot of books with his illustrations were published abroad, not only in Lithuania. Also the French scholar Claude Hubert-Ganiayre permitted to publish the text to her presentation at the 28th IBBY Congress “What is Quality?” in the Articles section.
Three sketches are dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Lithuanian author Petras Babickas. His contribution to various fields of art as well as to children’s literature can be traced. Eglė Zakarauskaitė tells about life of the creator, and Dalia Striogaitė analyses his very original book of poetry for children. Kęstutis Urba observes the short novels for children of the author ans states that they are important in the history of the Lithuanian children’s literature, but unfortunately they are unlikely to be interesting for modern reader.
Eugenija Stravinskienė is the famous translator of Astrid Lindgren’s books into Lithuanian as well as of other Swedish authors. She is interviewed by Elona Varnauskienė in the caption Books of my Childhood and tells about her young days and her experience as translator.
Short “Crazy stories” by Kęstutis Kasparavičius are published in the traditional section Let’s Read Together, Mother.
The study about life and works of the children’s poet Martynas Vainilaitis, written by Jonas Linkevičius, “Skammerents datter” by the Danish author Lene Kaaberbøl and “A Bear Called Padington” by Michael Bond are reciewed in the Reviews section.
Bibliography of essays and articles about children’s literature prepared by Roma Kišūnaitė fills the Bibliography section, and the Letters section consists of young readers’ letters about their favorite books.
