SUMMARY
„The 17th Thumbelina“ is the title of the Introductory, where Kęstutis Urba not only presents the new picture books by Kęstutis Kasparavičius based on the well-known fairy tale by Andersen, but also rejoices over the fact this type of books becomes more and more popular in Lithuania.
The issue mainly is devoted to the children‘s literature of our dear neighbours – Latvians. Ilze Stikane presents the very new titles of books and names of authors of the Latvian Children‘s literature. Marite Aboltina analyses colections of poems for children by the famous Latvian author Janis Rainis, and the director of the Latvian CL Center Silvija Tretjakova tells how succesfull is their project of reading promotion „Children‘s Commission“. The caption Let‘s read together, Mama, Papa! contains some funny short stories by Juris Zvirgzdins. The Articles section also contains the article „Re-visioning Romanticism in Philip Pullman‘s trilogy His Dark Materials“, written and donated for our magazine by Jean Webb.
Alma Valantinienė interviewed the family of journalists and authors: Milda Telksnytė and Vygantas Račkaitis. They talked about their childhood and readings. Four books are reviewed in the Reviews section: The same Stuff as Stars by Katherine Paterson, books about Pica and Oskar by the German authors Achim Bröger, Den fattige dreng fra Odense (about Andersen‘s life) by Hjørdis Varme and Lilian Brøgger, and the research work about the Lithuanian poetry for children by Loreta Žvironaitė.
The list of publications on Children‘s literature in 2004, compiled by Roma Kišūnaitė, is the content of the Bibliography section. And one letter received from young reader is published under the Letters caption.
