SUMMARY
The issue begins with the introductory text by the Editor-in-Chief Džiuljeta Maskuliūnienė about the changed circumstances of the publication of the magazine as well as the new Media Support Fund. Traditionally, we publish publications dedicated to the International Children’s Day – the address of Japanese creators to the world’s readers and the speeches of the winners of Pranas Mašiotas Prize – Marius Marcinkevičius and Lina Itagaki. As usual, six reviews overviewing the Lithuanian children’s literature of 2023 year are published: Laimutė Adomavičienė reviews realistic prose, literary fairy tales are reviewed by Eglė Baliutavičiūtė, and poetry – by Gražina Skabeikytė-Kazlauskienė, nonfiction – by Vaiva Schoroškienė, translations – by Ieva Vaitkevičiūtė, and book illustrations – by Jolita Liškevičienė. In the rubric “The Anniversaries”, Irena Baliulė writes about Albertas Vytautas Misevičius (on the 100th anniversary of his birth), and Gražina Skabeikytė-Kazlauskienė writes about folklorist Kazys Grigas (on the 100th anniversary of his birth). Dalia Karatajienė and Jolita Liškevičienė dedicate occasional articles to the famous Lithuanian writer and illustrator Kęstutis Kasparavičius (on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of his birth). The work of this artist is on the cover of the present magazine. There are two publications in the rubric “The Articles” by Vaiva Schoroškienė and Daiva Rudytė, devoted to the analysis of picture books. In this section, we also publish the article of Jessica Seymour, an Australian researcher on topical issues, “‘Youth Theory’: a Response to Aetonormativity”. In the rubric “We are Sharing our Experience”, teacher Jurgita Perednienė shares her discoveries of encouraging reading in the article Apie knygas kitaip (“About Books Otherwise”). In the rubric “The Readings of My Childhood”, Alma Valantinienė interviews Audrius Rakauskas, a journalist, author of a famous children’s TV program. The rubric “Retro” commemorates the 220th anniversary of the birth of Kajetonas Aleknavičius, the initiator of Lithuanian children’s poetry, and two anniversary Lithuanian Song Festivals (both publications are prepared by Reda Tamulienė). In the rubric “Photos Tell”, Džiuljeta Maskuliūnienė writes about the trip of the Lithuanian IBBY branch to Germany in 2008 to the famous places related to children’s literature. Four reviews are published: Irena Baliulė analyses Jonas Linkevičius’ monograph on the Lithuanian writer Selemonas Paltanavičius, Goda Baranauskaitė-Dangovienė writes about Jella Lepman’s book Knygų vaikams tiltas (“A Bridge of Children’s Books”), and Gražina Skabeikytė-Kazlauskienė analyses Bruno Bettelheim’s most famous book “The Uses of Enchantment. The Meaning and Importance of Fairy Tales”. The rubric ends with Lilija Vetiugova- Skupienė’s review, discussing the saga “The Guest of Mirrors” by the French writer Christelle Daba. In the rubric “We Introduce”, Laimutė Adomavičienė writes about the Latvian Children’s Literature Centre. Two bibliographic lists compiled by Roma Kišūnaitė are published in the form of a QR code: “Books for children and teenagers of 2023” and “On children’s literature and reading in 2023”. In the rubric “Let’s Read, Mom and Dad!”, three fairy tales by Selemonas Paltanavičius are published: Voro siūlų krautuvėlė (“Spider’s Thread Store”), Lapė seka pasaką (“A Fox Tells a Fairy Tale”), and Katinas yra katinas!
